Interview with Taylor Jones, owner of The Tiny Closet Boutique

Preparing for your honeymoon requires great detail, planning and of course fun! But once you and your fiancé are done selecting your honeymoon destination, you’re still left with an important decision—what to wear on your honeymoon! Of course you want to pick clothes that are comfortable and versatile, but for the few nights or days you’re on your dream vacation, you want a few head-turning outfits that will look great from every angle.

Our interview spotlight for this week is with beauty and fashion blogger turned boutique owner, Taylor Jones, of The Tiny Closet Boutique. Jones started The Tiny Closet Boutique in 2016 as a full-time student at Auburn University after working at a boutique in Auburn, Alabama.  Since its inception, The Tiny Closet Boutique continues to grow, with new clothes added weekly to the online shop. The Tiny Closet Boutique is the perfect destination to find your ideal honeymoon styles to fill your suitcase.

RNW: What boutique did you work at in your hometown to get the inspiration to start The Tiny Closet Boutique?

TJ: The funniest thing about this whole experience is that I never cared for fashion in the beginning. I wore a T-shirt and tennis shoes everywhere. I had no idea the many types of stores or mannequins there were and I also had no idea how to sell clothes. It wasn’t until I got into my major classes, like textiles and history of customers, that I realized I loved it. A family friend owns The Mint Julep Boutique [located in Auburn, Alabama] and hired me as one of their models. I saw the way they [owners] ran their business and how fast paced everything was. I loved it. I’ve never been the type to work for someone else. No matter where I’ve worked I felt like I was limited to what I could do and that’s when I decided I wanted to start The Tiny Closet Boutique.

RNW: What are some of your favorite fashion trends you are seeing right now?

TJ: Right now I am LIVING for the off the shoulder blouses and denim skirts. I’m a 90s baby [1995] and I remember dressing to the T in denim skirts and cute tops. The off the shoulder tops give you a little sexy, but can also make you look really cute. The other trend I’ve seen continue from last year is embroidery. It is everywhere in the fashion industry. EVERYWHERE! Roses, florals, patches, you name it

RNW: What are some honeymoon attire essentials brides should pack?

TJ: I personally am not married yet, but I have had a ton of good friends who are married and they ask me the same question! In 10 years, or more, when I get married and take a trip to my honeymoon location—Greece—this is what I’d take:  A sexy white dress for the one night you and your new husband take on the town; white because obviously you just got married and you want everyone to know it. The “MRS. Legs Dress,” from The Tiny Closet Boutique, would be the first thing I pack (coming this week) and a pair of black heels. I prefer the ones [heels] with the red bottoms for sure. This to be is an essential for the honeymoon. What is more classic than a white dress with red bottom shoes?

RNW: Your shop sells a lot of the latest trends— rompers, off the shoulder blouses and chokers. What are some of your favorite items that would be perfect for a tropical honeymoon?

TJ: We do have a ton of rompers because I am obsessed with them. I feel like it is a complete outfit. For a tropical honeymoon, the Jungle Fever set has a leaf pattern and makes for great photos. Also our Out in Paradise Romper is one of my favorites; paired with any layered necklace and you’re ready to take on the world with your new last name. The last set I really love is the Teal with Envy Set, which is currently sold out but will be restocked ASAP!

RNW: How far in advance should brides start planning their honeymoon attire?

TJ: I feel that if you must have it then get it. You could plan two months in advanced but I promise you that if you see an outfit you MUST have then you’ll get it. Even if it’s the night before you leave. Trends change so much and so often that it’s hard to plan a wardrobe!

RNW: For brides, not ready to show off some skin, what are some outfit choices they can wear on their honeymoon?

TJ: When I buy I take into consideration some people aren’t comfortable with showing too much [skin]. For those women, I chose the Ruffle Your Feathers Romper, Beach Don’t Kill My Vibes Jumpsuit and the Beach Please Maxi Dress. These outfits still give the honeymoon feel without showing off too much.

RNW: What are some casual pieces The Tiny Closet Boutique sells?

TJ: I'm about comfort, but also being cute! We have a couple ideas for a more casual look. Embroidery is a hot trend right now and our Young and Free jeans are perfect for the beach. The jeans are light washed and flair—and paired with the Cross Country Top— all women look INCREDIBLE in it.

RNW: Regarding shoe options, what are some choices or styles that are comfortable and would be great for a honeymoon?

TJ: Again comfort is KEY to vacation. Flip-flops from somewhere like Old Navy are my favorite. Flip-flops are inexpensive and also comfy. Heels are a must! Wedges are also cute at the beach or somewhere tropical.

RNW: Your store sells a good selection of accessories. What’s your motto for accessorizing and what should brides consider taking on their honeymoon?

TJ: Less is more. ALWAYS! I love some accessories, but too much can take away from your beauty and also the outfit. I usually wear one good complement color accessory; whether it is a bracelet or some statement earrings.  Our Jellyfish earrings are my favorite statement earrings for sure. It comes in a couple colors. There are also a ton of simple chokers and necklaces on the site.

RNW: Anything else you would like to add about The Tiny Closet Boutique or honeymoon attire?

TJ: The Tiny Closet Boutique loves and respects all women. The women who want to show a little skin and the women who feel more comfortable covered up; we try to cater to all women and their personalities. We also love feedback from people, and if there is a style or brand women want, then we want to make sure they can get it from us!

Shop The Tiny Closet Boutique for the latest trends and styles for your honeymoon. You’ll be happy you did!

Happy Engagement, Happy Planning
