Matt + Emily

Emily and Matt’s love for each other began while they were working on a movie set. They knew each other growing up, but being that they both work in the movie industry; they spent a lot of time together on long shoots and developed a closer relationship. Being in close proximity with each other on a daily basis, their casual conversations matured into dates, dates evolved into love, and love flourished to him popping the question. Neither one of them thought they would get married, but they knew they couldn’t spend a day without each other and they were ready to spend their forever together.

August 8 arrived, their wedding day, and it was the day they would unite and share a sacred bond to last forever. Emily is the youngest of 10 siblings and she wanted a simple, sweet wedding that just focused on her and Matt’s bond. No decorations or a formal dinner, just celebrating the love of each other was enough. The wedding took place at gorgeous Old Fourth Ward Park in Midtown and it could have not been a better day for the wedding. The sky lit up with an abundance of sunshine for their evening wedding, and #palmish signs directed guests to where the wedding was.

Guests began to arrive and enjoyed cocktail hour with wine and beer catered by Raising the Bar. Guests mingled in the open area of Old Fourth Ward Park, while listening to Karen Alise Music playing faintly in the background. The great thing about them getting married at Old Fourth Ward Park was how serene the scenery was. There is a lavish pond in the middle of the park surrounded by beautiful greenery and a water fountain that created a romantic ambience for the night. When guests walked into the park it didn’t feel like the middle of Atlanta. You couldn’t hear cars honking, just the laughter and smiles from everyone in attendance.

Being an untraditional couple, Emily and Matt made their entrance into the park together holding hands. Emily was all smiles with a glow and Matt had a smile from ear to ear. They started the walk down the grass-covered stone aisle and guests clapped and cheered from them—everyone was excited about this nuptial.

The ceremony began but with a twist. Instead of a traditional Officiant, they had a poetry style Officiant who did lyrical verses of their vows. It was a sweet way for them to stay true to themselves and incorporate only the simple things that mattered to them. After the vows, they kissed and were officially Mr. and Mrs. Parrish.

After the ceremony, they went straight into their first dance as newlyweds.  Soon after Emily’s father joined her and Matt’s mother joined him.  They ended the first dances with a family dance, which consisted of the bride, groom, their parents, and sibling.

They jumped right into the reception where guests were presented with hor d’oeuvres, which were catered by their good friend, Kim McMinn, who they know from the movie industry. Thinking of their guests, Emily and Matt had fans available for everyone since it was a summer wedding. The wooden fans were another taste of their personality with their wedding date engraved on the side. With the temperature rising and the night just beginning, the iced coffee bar, Wanderlust Coffee, opened for refreshments.  This was a huge hit, as the guests had a choice from regular brewed iced coffee and nitro-infused iced coffee.

Instead of a cake, they opted to do several pies and have a pie tasting competition. Various family members made different pies: chocolate, blueberry, cherry and more, and Emily and Matt tasted them blindfolded and chose a winner. The winner… the cherry pie and they presented a winning sash to Emily’s cousin who made the pie.

The night continued with dancing, laughter and happiness and ended with the guests lighting the way for the new Mr. & Mrs. Parrish. We are so thrilled that we were able to keep their wedding simple and true to who they are. We wish them a lifetime of love and happiness.

Tell Rebecca Niccole Brides a little bit about yourself and your company.

"I first got involved with bridal hair and makeup ten years ago after beginning cosmetology school. I later found that I enjoyed working on-site with brides more than the hustle and bustle of a salon. Having the ability to specifically plan around one bride’s day each weekend makes my job fun. It becomes personal for me and the bride, rather than them being a client in my chair and then gone."

What made you decide to work in the field of bridal hair and makeup?

"I love hearing stories of how my brides have met their grooms. Being apart of her day is her way of entrusting me with the most precious day of her life."

What are your top 3 beauty tips for brides?

"Exfoliate, moisturize and less is more. Taking care of your skin (pre-makeup) is just as important as what you put on your face. And remember, enhancing your features with a little makeup can (many times) go farther than a face covered."

What are your top 3 hair tips for brides?

"Slightly dirty (think martini), hair products for volume and keratin treatments to ensure smoothness."

What is your favorite part of the job?

"My favorite part of the job are the after-wedding “shout outs”. Seeing a bride credit me for her day of look means she truly loved my work and felt beautiful."

What has been the most unusual request from a bride?

"To climb a mountain (through red clay and all) for pictures prior to her wedding."

What are some of your favorite products to use on a bride?

"I’m a fan of all things- Ben Nye for facial coverage and I love fake lashes. They don’t have to be anything too crazy; just a little something to accentuate what they already have."

Tell us a little bit about your bridal packages.

"I offer on-location services for my brides (in and out of state). From a simple blow dry for grandma, to beautiful updos for brides, I have done all types of hair styles. It’s my personal ambition to ensure a bride is 110% comfortable before her special day, so I offer trial package in which the bride and I sit together, look at goal pictures and play around until she looks the way she has always dreamt."
